Episode 3. 10 Audition Book Categories You Need Part 2
/This episode picks up where Episode 2 left off. We are discussing the 10 audition song categories you need in your book, from operetta all the way to today. In the previous episode, I covered categories 1-3 as well as:
the purpose and importance of your audition book.
exactly which shows and composers fit into each category
and the vocal and performing attributes of each genre
In this episode, I begin discussing category 4, "Post-Gold Age Musical Theatre" and continue through category 10, "The Money Cut." There's even a BONUS CATEGORY that I think many of you will benefit from having. Again, lots of detail regarding shows, composers, and performing attributes of each musical theatre genre.

TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS EPISODE
For every new generation of composers there is a new sound on Broadway, and that means you need a new audition song for that time period.
When auditioning for rock musicals and jukebox musicals, pay attention to the audition notice to see whether they want a song from a show or a song that is from radio top 40 hits.
When using stand alone cabaret songs, choose songs that feature fully drawn characters and clear emotional moments. Remember they haven’t gone through the refining process that songs from Broadway shows have been through.
There may be certain categories of rock radio top 40 songs that you don’t vibe with, but try singing them all. You might be surprised by how fun they are to sing AND how many different styles of shows you can audition for.
Pay attention to which audition songs elicit the most positive response from the audition panel and put those songs into your “money song” category.
