Welcome to MOTIVE Vocal Ensemble.

Motive Vocal Ensemble is a group of musical theatre artists who perform ensemble-based projects including concerts, workshops, and retreats. Repertoire draws from musical theatre, rock, and original compositions that blend the world of concert works and theatrical works.

As you consider joining this group, my hope is that this ensemble would be a place where we can encounter the beauty and power that happens when people join their voices together - literally and figuratively.

It’s the idea of "yes, and" - yes, your experience is valuable AND their experience is valuable AND so on.

Also, this group is about the symbolism of part singing - I have one part and you have a totally different part, but together our parts take on something much greater. You give mine context, and I give yours context. And only, when we ALL sing our parts can the full, complete, and most beautiful music be made.

I want to collaborate with performers and creatives in our theatre community that are longing for something that feels positive in a dark world. Let’s be the light, ya’ll.

 
 

MOTIVE VOCAL ENSEMBLE Fall 2023

REHEARSALS

Monday evenings, 6-9pm

August 21, 30 (WEDNESDAY)

September 11, 18, 25 (nothing on 9/4 because of Labor Day)

October 2, 9, 16

Rehearsal Location - Northminster Presbyterian Church (in Clairemont)

4324 Clairemont Mesa Blvd, San Diego, CA 92117

Please be able to commit to all 8 rehearsals (or at most, 2 absences) for the sake of harmonic continuity of the group.

WHAT WILL WE DO IN THIS GROUP?

This is an 8-week musical theatre vocal ensemble experience where we will work on 4-5 music selections. Repertoire is drawn from theatre, pop music, and beyond.

This ensemble will be...

  • a place where we can encounter the beauty and power that happens when people join their voices together - literally and figuratively.

  • an opportunity to brush up on choral technique and part singing

  • a celebration of musical theatre ensemble repertoire & harmony! 

PERFORMANCE

We will have an intimate performance for friends and family on our final rehearsal date. Time is tentatively set for 7:30pm. Location: Northminster Presbyterian (our rehearsal space).

This group is currently a non-audition group. All are welcome!

MATERIALS

You will be provided with sheet music for each song.  Please bring a pencil and a binder to put the music in.  Also, please bring a recording device!

COVID PROTOCOL

  • Proof of vaccination & boosters (bring your vaccination card or a photo of it to our first rehearsal)

  • Masks are optional during rehearsal

  • We will sit semi-distanced during rehearsal

  • If you test positive for Covid, you may return to the choir after the CDC recommended 5-day isolation period. You must be masked upon return until the CDC recommended period of 10 days is over.
